BASIC LEVEL ENTRIES

ADVANCED LEVEL ENTRIES

- 1st – 9.5 – The first thing I see when I look at the image is the beautiful colors of the wings which create visual impact. The placement of the subject in the frame is a unique creative approach. There is good light which enhances the subject’s eye. I do see a little noise, but it did not detract from the overall quality.

- 2nd – 9.2 – The impact of the image creates a calm and peaceful reaction. I like the originality of composition with placing the tree slightly off center. The colors are complimentary, and the tones are appropriate.

- 3rd – 9.0 – The sharpness in critical areas of the image adds to the impact. This is an original setting with good light, and I like the complimentary colors. Depth is created with the lily pads in foreground, grass in the middle and the windmills in the back; it draws my eye into the image. I do notice the horizon is not level which is a slight distraction.

- HM – 8.5 – The expression of the subject creates an emotional reaction. The good light on the subject’s face enhances the image and compliments the natural skin tones of the child. I think there is a good use of cropping to fill the frame. I do see some noticeable noise which is a slight distraction.

- 8.0 – The unique subjects tell a good story. I like the unique creative approach of the composition. There is nice light on the subjects and the colors are true to life. The subjects are out of focus and not sharp, which is a distraction. I did notice some noise which was also a distraction.

- 6.0 – A field of bluebonnets is very common in Texas and there is not high impact because of the lack of a central point of interest. In my opinion including more of the stormy sky would have made a stronger image. I like that the flowers, trees and sky create depth which leads my eye deeper into the photo.

- 5.0 – The maker presented the image in a unique composition, but I feel it’s more of a record shot. There is little impact, and I found the pole to be distracting as it drew my eye. In my opinion the image is underexposed and is not sharp.
MASTERS LEVEL ENTRIES

- 1st – 9.9 – This is a high impact image, is unique and creative. It provokes wonder and questions in the viewer’s mind. The artistic approach is one not often seen. There is good light, the image is sharp and properly exposed.

- 2nd – 9.8 – The fire instantly drew my eye to the image and created strong impact. The subject is original, and the maker used a unique and creative approach for capturing the image. I think there is good use of light which slightly illuminates the background which gives the image depth.

- 3rd – 9.7 – The image displays peak action, and the maker chose a creative and unique way to photograph the subject. The image is well balanced and there is good use of light. I like seeing the capture of the hammer action and although not sharp it is not a distraction.

- HM – 9.6 – The image tells a good story, and the composition is a unique creative approach. The soft light and building lines lead my eye around the image. The image is sharp, in focus and properly exposed.

- HM – 9.6 – The bright colors caught my eye, and the sharp details add to the impact. I like the composition of the flower filling the frame. There is good light, and the colors appear natural. The petals show detail and texture and I feel the image is well balanced.

- HM – 9.6 – I like the story the image conveys, and the chosen composition is a unique and creative approach. The lines in the building provide a calm and quiet feeling and they also create an interesting pattern for my eye to focus on. In my opinion the leading lines of the bridge in the bottom leads my eye out of the frame and is a distraction.

- 9.2 – The image tells a good story, and the composition is a unique and creative approach. I agree that black and white was a good choice and the tones are appropriate and not muddy. The image is sharp, in focus and properly exposed.

- 9.0 – The sharp leading lines in the fence create impact and lead my eye deeper into the image. I like the placement in the composition which I feel is a creative approach. The fence, the hills and the sky create depth. The image was shot in harsh light which detracts from the overall serenity.

- 8.5 – The images tells a good story. The roadrunner is not unique in Texas, but this capture is original because of the placement in the frame and the sharp eye. The image was taken in harsh light which creates a bright background. In my opinion adjusting the hue of the background would make it a stronger image.

- 8.0 – In my opinion, the blue hour light and stormy sky create strong impact. The placement of the ship in the frame is a unique and creative approach. However, this placement also leads my eye out of the frame. To me, the composition is too heavy on the left.

- 8.0 – The image conveys a good story and invokes a feeling of serenity. I agree that black and white was the best choice and the tones are appropriate and not muddy. In my opinion the flat light does not enhance the subject. I did notice the modern building to the right which is a distraction.

- 7.5 – The impact of the image conveys a feeling of calm and serenity. This is a nice location and the colors are complimentary with appropriate tone. I do see some noticeable noise and there is a distraction on the horizon line on the upper left. There are dust spots in the sky.

- 7.0 – I like the unique creative approach of the image and the location was nice. I believe the leading line of the boardwalk takes my eye deeper into the image, but it was distracting to not find anything beyond. The image was taken in harsh light, and this appears to me as a cluttered composition.

- 6.9 – The subject is unique and unusual. In my opinion, the impact is lessened by the lack of sharpness for the subject. Overall, the image is slightly out of focus which distracts from the potential strength.

- 6.0 – This is a unique creative approach but, to my eye, the image lacks impact. The strong horizontal lines of the trailer block my eye. I see the maker included the longhorns but the placement in the composition drew my eye out of the image.

- 6.0 – I think this is an ordinary capture of a nice sunset. The colors in the sky are beautiful but the lines are distracting. I believe a foreground object would have made the image stronger.
